Anyone had a driveshaft / u-joint fail?

My car has 89k currently, I notice some very low pitch / deep resonance 58-70mph, my tires may need balancing I will try that first. It is *NOT* a wheel bearing, MOST people wouldn't notice it and it NEVER changes pitch... but it's there on or off load. Only constant is the speed at which it occurs.

What makes you say it's not a wheel bearing? Not saying you are wrong, just asking.

I had a rear wheel bearing (well both now) go bad, and they didn't change pitch with hard left or right turns.

I suppose its possible but any wheel bearing noise I've ever heard was much louder, this isnt noticable unless hvac and radio off

Subscribed... any vibration noticeable or just sound? I have a 'rumble' both sound and subtle vibration around 60mph which is definitely not related to wheel, tire, or brake disk and quite possibly driveshaft related.

I had my front drive shaft start to fail on me. I was getting a low squeaking noise at low speeds. Got under the car and saw the joints were all messed up. Replaced it amd all was good.

Bump, it's more of a quiet bass drone 58-65mph most noticably. No clicks clicks or clunks, not affected by load or rolling the body. De accelerate below 58 and it's gone.

You don't have the golf tee mod or JB4 exhaust flapper open mode? Sometimes I get a noticeable drone with the exhaust flapper open at 65-80 mph. Can't be specific on speed as I drive dependent on traffic.

If your concerned, I'd jack up the car and rotate the tires back and forth. If their failing, there should be some pay in the joint and it would cause a "clunk/click" noise as you switch directions.

no, flapper is stock and noise remains in neutral with revs @ 650

It if occurs in neutral you can rule out the drive shaft, half shafts or wheel bearings.

no, you can't.... because @ 60mph in netural those shafts are still spinning

Well, you left that little detail out where you shifted into neutral while at highway speeds. So with that in mind, I withdrawal my comments.

Wheel bearing? I had a humming bass like noise that only was heard over 50 and it turned out to be my rear wheel bearings
