Look at the posts by poobarr above - you think they are positive!?
There are ways and means and I just think people have overstepped the mark a bit, perhaps I'm being too sensitive.

The guy is young, enthusiastic about cars and keen to talk about them. He likes it here, and I think on the whole people like him, particularly it seems those who have met him. I very much doubt 4,200 posts are complete twaddle. It has been said before that Carlos brightens up the forums and I agree, I think it would be a duller place without him.

With our maturity and advanced years I'm sure there's a way we could put that without it getting personal or having a real dig. Like z4 who has actually suggested something constructive and something I agree with.

I don't think anyone thinks POOBARR is constructive at all - but the other comments are from longer term members, and those which often usually post when they have something constructive to say, compliment someones new purchase or join in a bit of a chuckle on a thread.

Thats why I come here anyway?

ROTFLMAO. I love the irony of it - you find him immature yet your support of poobarr means that I find you more so - and you are probably old enough to know better. I've had several PMs of support from people who don't want to get involved, and the guys earlier in the thread showed how adults deal with this so I don't feel particularly alone Oli.

Oli clearly does and is enjoying your support it would seem I'm happy with comments from longer term members e.g. Z4, NFS, Viv who all handled this like adults.

I think redE93cab is being very rational about expressing this. I think he is very reasonably expressing the opionons of the silent majority.

As I have put in writing before, I have to bite my tongue many times with regards Carlos' posts. I know he is a harmless, over-exuberant and occasionally self-important kid, but seriously I didn't come here to engage in teenage banter in almost every post. Sometimes it seems like a chavfest of 1/4 times/racing/chipping etc. that you have to dig through to get some BMW info.

I have nothing against him personally, and will not be part of any ban posse. He has every right to be here.

But he could try the patience of a saint, and his biggest failing is he is totally oblivious to that.

A separate OT section would be a good idea. He can post in there to his heart's content and I'd enjoy popping in to see the antics. But it is not the reason I visit this board.

Why dont they post up here like adults then , instead of sending you little personal messges - Jury's out on this one -

Im not supporting anyone, but its funny that someone who has hardly posted has seen straight through the guy

And Im od enough to know that when I was his age, Id be out doing things that other 20 odd, full of testosterone, would be doing. He obviously has no real mates, hence why eh on here 24/7

I think a lot of you need a reality check and there is more to life than bloody forums

I think its a shame, that its very clicky on here, and that myself, E93cab, roofer, SiBurt and others post here to say that someone is being a 'complete forum nightmare', you all go on the defensive and stick close together.

Right Im off to bed now to leave you with these thoughts, so stop sticking up for him, and let him speak for himself

Dave, you've always been a very vocal objector to Carlos' posts so it is no surprise to see you supporting the posse here. Your posts are always well thought out and well written, but I just don't see what is to be gained by this posse bashing Carlos. The bulk of the posts on the forum aren't by carlos, just skip over them. I feel like I am in the minority now but I just get angry when I see a bunch of old(er) guys having a go at this young guy who in the scale of things in life has done no harm.

I think sleep might be a good idea:

i) Those guys aren't sending me personal messages - I was referring to their earlier adult, non personal posts. No need to get paranoid.
ii) "There's more to life than bloody forums" - EXACTLY my point - don't get so het up about Carlos' posts on them then.
iii) It isn't clicky on here at all. WHo is "ALL" going on the defensive - as far as I'm aware I'm the only one who has defended him at all. I've had a couple of PMs from others (none who I have mentioned) who thought that poobarr in particular but all in general had gone a bit far.
iv) "He obviously has no real mates, hence why eh on here 24/7" is exactly the sort of personal comment I'm talking about.

He isn't here to speak/defend himself. And I'm hoping the admins will have tidied up a good few of the ban posse/personal posts before he is.

Night!

OliH - do agree with you to some extent on the clique aspect, but that could be because meets have been organised and some people know each other better than others. This aspect can put off new members as they may not feel as welcome, but I understand what you are saying.

My name was mentioned in the list as one of the longer term members, but I have certainly never PM'd SilverBMWZ3 about anything - not sure what you mean by this statement??

There is a tipping point.

I've held back at the sheer wide-eyed, absurdity of some of his posts, and let it drop many times as it is only the internet and tried to remain civil. As I am sure many others have. Perhaps there comes a time when people just need to vent their feelings ? They are being expressed mostly (with the odd loopy exception) calmly and rationally. If there is more than one acknowledging these sentiments (on other forums too) then there is at least some substance to them .... and have every right to be discussed.

I will not be part of a posse, as I clearly said. Nothing personal against him. He has every right to be here. I've suggested a solution.

I've been reading all this and have to chuckle a little at the irony of it all. I have been expecting that at some point the little digs at Carlos with regards to his exuberant postings would escalate into something a little more serious, but I never expected to see such personal comments directed at him.

I think it's a shame that the hot topic of our forum is a thread that has degenerated into a vitriolic slanging match. And a one-sided one at that, given Carlos has not responded. Criticism is all very well and good if it is constructive, but calling him a c**t and a wa**er with no life and no friends only shows IMO a lack of class and dignity and is resorting back to school-ground bullying.

I agree that Carlos has a huge tendency to contribute to the forum "off-topic" and that quite a lot of his posts are so banal that they become irritating. Most of these I tend to ignore, some of them I contribute in if I have the time, and some of the time I laugh because it can be amusing.

If his 'crime' in life is to be over-exuberent on a public forum and that pisses people off to the extent that they start personally attacking the fella (and even logging on as a new user seemingly just to abuse him - PooBarr in reference) then I think the real immaturity lies in those who resort to school-boy bully tactics.

We are all entitled to our opinions, as forthright or not as they may, but I think as adults we should be mature enough to express those opinions without the personal degredation. I have been fortunate enough to meet Carlos in person, and I actually think he's a nice guy. He's young, exbuberant and sometimes (perhaps more often than not) speaks before he thinks. That doesn't make him a bad person. Spending time on the forum doesn't make him a bad person either. He has his girlfriend, so doesn't necessarily have to be out shagging every other thing that moves either. Being faithful doesn't make him a bad person.

Carlos is a very lucky guy - his dad bought him his car and it happens to be a very nice car. I personally am not jealous of him - I've worked bloody hard to get to the position in life I am now, but I don't begrudge him his luck. Fair play to him in fact. He doesn't seem to be an ASBO-kid, a drug-dealer or paedophile, all three of whom would be more deserving of being called a c**t and w**ker

I think this thread will show him that he has a need to consider his postings before actually doing so, but equally this thread has shown me that there are others who have their downsides too and this disappoints me.

The solution IMO would be, as others have previously suggested, to get the Admins to setup an "Off-Topic" part of the UK Forum, so that Carlos (and others) OT posts can go there, without detracting from the more valuable and pertinent information relating to our cars.

I am in total agreement, some posts that I have been interested in (HotCoupe's malfunctioning car, my Dyno Day thread, detailing questions etc) have almost disappeared and trying to keep up to date with the very important things is more and more difficult.

Our forum is about our cars first and foremost, and I hope the Carlos-bashing will stop and our focus returns to the joys (and problems ) we experience with BMW E9x ownership.

Well that went a bit pear shaped did it not!

I'm in agreement with E92 on this, member bashing on such a personal level is not pleasant and smacks of playground bullying.
I read Carlos' original post that started the whole thread, and yes I found it a rather strange question,so I chose to ignore it.

Yes there are occasions when Carlos will post trivia, but more often then not the clue will be in the title, I.E OT,so for those that find these topics uninteresting, just don't read them.
It's not dissimilar to the TV,as soon as something comes on that has anything to do with sex,I turn it off.

The forum is a valuable tool, full of tips and advice, and all the members on the whole make valuable contributions,it's a shame when things like the above happen.

Not paranoid, far from it!!! Just misread one of your posts with your my tired eye's.

Everything else I have written I stand by, I think he should rein it in and stop writing a load of crap all of the time, and engage brain before typing. I have witheld lots of times, and last night just seemed the right time to let it all out, there's no playgound bullying about it, i and other's by the looks of thing have thought for a long time that he's full of it and it was the right time to voice our opinions.

That's because I'm with you on the Carlos defense team.

I don't think people need to be nasty to one another. This forum is about entertainment discussion amongst people with shared interest.

I want a bit of off topic.

Mr Fandango has brightened things up considerably round here, even if he is a complete dipstick at times.

So far as I am concerned he is more than welcome to post whatever he likes.

I may tease him a bit from time to time, but it's all in jest.

I was watching this thread yesterday and was saddened by the downturn it took.

What struck me was that the initial issue raised was that there was no point to the thread, and that threads like it should be ignored. Then we got to 4 pages of 'discussion' about the fact!!! This could be the new Oxford English Dictionary definition of irony. There was simply no need for it to degenerate to the level it did though and it did smack of 'ganging up' on someone. There are clearly issues of more useful threads disappearing under the weight of OT stuff but it didn't need to get as far as it did IMHO.

Squeeze, E92Fan, Z4, NFS and Viv, well done for being the voices of reason.

The UK forum has way more threads than most other regional forum:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19

.... and I think we all agree that a bit of off-topic banter is good, but if it were kept away from the more serious and relevant issues (like people venting their frustration at dealers, asking for advice etc.) then that would give us an ideal forum setup.

I don't think anyone has the right to suggest that a member is banned or kicked off the forum, as from what I can see no member is specifically breaking the 'rules' of the site (we all agree to them when we sign up). I PM'd the admins last night to suggest that the thread 'Should Carlos be kicked off the forum' be removed, and it now looks like it has. I think forums like this rely on people having different opinions, and in fact that's what can make them interesting and worthwhile.

Thanks Tony for that good write up, i have met you and think you too a a great chap!! i think you have pretty well summed it up well!!!

cheers for your help this week (on the car matter) aswell mate

I don't think people need to be nasty to one another. This forum is about entertainment discussion amongst people with shared interest.

I want a bit of off topic.

Mr Fandango has brightened things up considerably round here, even if he is a complete dipstick at times.

So far as I am concerned he is more than welcome to post whatever he likes.

I may tease him a bit from time to time, but it's all in jest.

its amazing how some people, are so on ''my side'' and others ''so against me'' i know i can annoy the people who like me, but thats life, we dont always get on 100% with our miswahs for example!!! but the guys jumping down my throat are doing so somewhat blinkeredly!!

thanks NFS for being here to support me

somewhat sad and dissapointed that, last nigth a post was started saying to kick me off.. i thought adults like many of you on here would be far more mature than that!!!! a very sad day for me, on a forum which i have enjoyed my last 7 months and met some great guys.. now i feel a little dejected. So you carlos haters have won...

Carlos - I hope you read through some of the previous posts and realise that we are not ;out to get you' - neither are we asking for you to get kicked off. Some idiot turned up on here last night, who i THINK knows you from another forum. He basically posted complete rubbish and started a thread. The comments and thread thankfully have been removed.

What did get everyones back up was the content of yet another post. It is difficult to explain beacuse I for one did not just log on and slag you off. Yes, I was the first one to comment, but in all fairness i have thought about similar comments many times. I really enjoy coming to this forum, and people come here for different things. I come to learn about my car, ask questions that I am unsure about and try and answer some other guys questions with my limited amount of BMW knowledge. I am also a car nut who eats, sleeps and breathes cars. I also can be a complete daft idiot at times but I believe there is a time and a place.

I do not object to OT posts at all - maybe a different section might help though to be honest. There just seems to be a complete plethora of OT posts sometimes and you are the main OP. I often pop on to see how a fellow owner is getting on with particular troubles, and then greeted with 'how do you pronounce the engine size of your car, is an old M quicker than blah blah, will a remapped 335d beat a porsche, etc etc.. I know these are not identical posts but I cant be bothere to go back and retrieve exact subjects but I am sure you get my meaning. You then have to search around tryin to find the relevent posts and I often log off wondering why I had bothered.

It also appears that other people who visit agree with me - last night was the straw that broke the camels back - we were not out to get you kicked off and at times you make me chuckle and I smile at a lot of the humour on here, but when relevent posts are the minority it becomes frustrating. I am a lot older than you but does not mean I have lost my sense of humour, however with age comes maturity and I am sure in a few years you will lokk back at a few things and understand why we sometimes get wound up with ya

I hope you dont take personal offence at this - I certainly do not want to fall out with anyone, and typing text in a forum is difficult to put words down how you exactly mean to say them.

Paul
