HELP! I think my water pump just gave up...

Driving back from Heathrow last night, everything was fine and then the yellow water light came on, no heat at all from the blowers, few minutes later the red water temp light followed. I pulled over and opened the bonnet. Obviously didn't open the coolant cap but I can see it has lost some but not all of the coolant as it was over the wheel arch and wheel.

The fans were on full blast and there was an intermittent whizzing sound coming from just in front of the coolant reservoir. There was a bit of coolant on the floor but not a lot by any means. I do not have breakdown cover stupidly, so getting the car collected is a costly exercise I shall be getting sorted today to get it to a garage.

Did some research and it would seem my water pump has failed, any ideas or does this sound like the case?

Also if it is this where is cheapest place to buy the pump as I have seen they are circa 400-500.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Elliot

Sorry to hear about this!!! Whats the mileage on your car?

I thnk you are looking more around the 700 mark by an Indy... but I am not sure. I haven't needed this done yet.

Sounds like water pump, mine went last weekend now sorted. A new pump from BMW is £370+Vat. I orders one from the states to try and save money but delivery took too long so ordered another for more £££....but have just checked the tracking on the pump and apparently it's cleared customs so will be with me in 1-2 days.

If your interested you can have it for what I paid for it (a lot less than £370+vat). Give me a PM if interested.

Replied to PM

Limiting factor now is USPS/Royal mail delivery times for the pump now that it's in the UK. Will let you know ASAP, i know how annoying it is to be stranded by the side of the road with the fans at full blast

Just glad I may be able to help out

Yup, fan on full indicates the pump isn't working - bad news.

They have also recently change the pump - it no longer had the little rubber feet/gromits in the bolt holes and the 3 bolts which must be replaced are now also shorter - beware you get the updated pump!

I paid 234 and that installation and a brake fluid change as it was due so pretty cheap I think.
