Creaking Sound coming from Passenger Side front suspension

I've recently noticed a creaking sound coming from my Passenger side area. I've read that it could be due to the cold weather, even though this is the first time in 3 winters I've had this issue (2010). Usually worse over bumps, and fine once the car gets up to speed.

Has anyone here had that issue happen to them? Any good solutions? Car is no longer under warranty.

EDIT* 2.21.14 Visited Mach V this afternoon and I have a blown strut on the passenger side. Driver's side is starting to go as well Bought these brand new and only have them on ~12-14K miles. Chalking this up partly due to the roads in this area.

Does anyone have any recommendations on replacements? I'm going to call KW about sending these back to be repaired, but I really don't want to go back to stock XI springs, especiallly for the spring/summer coming up. Anyone have any experience with spring/strut combos they like? I'm not going for a slammed look, just a moderate drop. Currently have about a 2 fingers gap on all corners

Can never be sure with noises especially without having someone look at your suspension. That being said, my old '03 325Ci my suspension creaked over bumps / getting in and out of the car because the bushings were bad it had 114k on it before I traded it in. As far as bushings on the front your sway bar end links will be smallest/weakest/most commonly go bad. But there are bushings all over the place if it is even that and none of them like this cold weather. Good luck finding this noise.

How many miles? Had that on my 2008 328i, never noticed a single problem with handling. Dealer commented it may have been a dried out bushing, but it never got worse and the car was a lease.

Yeah I've read it could be the bushing, but also that it occurs only in cold weather, but goes away once it gets warmer out.

Car has 40K miles - on KW V1's but have been so for >1 year with 0 issue, summer or winter

Unfortunately KW's have a habit of the strut/shocks dying. Usually it's a clunking noise when a KW strut goes. The good news is, if it is the strut you can get it replaced under the lifetime warranty. More than likely its a bushing, possibly a sway bar bushing. See if you can have an independent shop diagnose it for you and go from there.

So I've been a little lazy in addressing this issue, but the sound is seemingly more persistent. Does anyone have any good rec's on shops they've used? or has anyone in this area had this issue too? I've used BMW Alexandria for everything since I was previously under warranty.

I'm located in the Arlington/Crystal City area.

I would suggest RRT or Mach V, but they're a bit out of your way. Not sure who is a good indy shop in Fairfax.

There's been an instance or two where I've turned the wheel hard while not moving and I hear a "thud" type noise. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

x2 my KW V1 struts blew after ~10k miles. KW refurbished them (revalved/resealed), but the whole process took 8 months total.

Mine sometimes make noises (mainly creaks, no clunking really), but especially in the winter. Over bumps at low speed, even the compression/dampening is very audible. I've had mine on for ~50k miles now.

Yeah I'm really hoping it's not a blown strut. Looks like in most cases it's a bushing/sway bar issue, so I'm really hoping that's it. I'm not oppose to going to Mach V but it's a little bit far from me. it's that or the dealer though...

I wouldn't take my car to the dealer for a suspension issue with KWs installed..

Is the coil turning with the wheel when you turn it? If not then there's a possibility somehow the washer is flipped upside down. I would try to remove the coil, resintall it, and then tighten the top mount nut again with the car lowered back to the ground.

Do you hear a noise from the wheel wheel when truning and do you have any signs of oil on the steering linkage? Also does your car drift left or right when in a straight line.

KW does have limited lifetime warranty, so unless you're unhappy with the way they ride/perform, you might as well just have them refurbish yours, or you could sell them when you get them back.
Note: I believe they only covered my return shipping. I had to pay like $40-50 to ship to CA. Terrible customer service.

Yeah I was thinking that I could get something in the interim and either sell it when I got the KWs back (hopefully not 8 months like you lol), or sell the refurbed KW's. I just don't want to be on the stock springs for an extended period of time.
