Paint side marker backing plate
Folks,
I looked into getting some smoked LED sidemarkers, but after what I've read, it sounds like with any of the manufacturers, there are issues with fitment, and if there isn't a proper rubber seal, condensation. What I'm realizing after pulling my sidemarker out and examining it is that all I really want is a super clear lens and a backing plate (is that the right term?) that isn't white. It just sticks out too much on my jet black car. I plan to just replace the bulb with an LED first, but then I'm wondering if I can remove the lens from the plate, polish it up, and just paint the plate itself? I want to paint it black so it just looks like a clear sidemarker lens on the side of the car without a backing plate there. I think it would look much sharper than the white plastic-y look it has now (attached). Thanks for any thoughts!

There is a whole thread on smoke/LED side markers a few posts down. The LED housing itself is sealed, so I don't think you have to worry about condensation.
The new F10 side markers that I have just bought don't sit 100% sealed against the side fenders, but I don't think there will be any problems (I hope). Personally I would go with the ones on Bimmian for a sedan if you want a more OEM look. |

I tried this and did not have any luck and I tried baking it. I believe I asked about this a little while back and got the answer that the plastic is actually fused together and its not glue.

I had a can of VHT nightshades sitting around from my truck so that's what I used. But one can of that is half the price of new markers so going that route might be best

Will look into that as well. Seems like a nice cheap option that won't necessarily look cheap.

For anyone interested, I went with EAS smoked LED side markers and they fit perfectly. I'll get some pics up and let everyone know if I have issues with condensation. They look 100% better than the OEMs!
