The world's fastest ship?

Thought you might find this interesting. Sailwx reported Courage's position to be off the coast of Nova Scotia at 2300 GMT on 24Nov07, 30 hours after leaving Southampton.

It's got to be an error, because the only way Courage could have crossed the Atlantic by now is if it traveled at 70 mph. Somehow I don't see that ship having a set of hydrofoils.

I think the giveaway is that both latitude and longitude have EXACTLY the same value: 4812'. Oh well, wishful thinking.

Nice catch! Looks like they updated with some better coordinates this morning. Doesn't seem like they've made it very far in 2 days. A watched pot never boils I suppose.

I hope I get mine by the 15th. I'm gonna be out of town the following week till Christmas and I do not want my baby sitting in a cold dealership parking lot till I get back.

That would be nice if it were processed that fast... but from what I've been reading on here, it can sit at the VPC for up to 7 days depending how busy they are. I guess we'll see...

No doubt! Looks like it's almost half way across the Atlantic. At this rate it might make it a day early.

I was obsessive enough to calculate it out, and it looks like it'll be right on time.

Calculated the distance again tonight. As of 2300 UTC on 28 Nov, 1396 more nautical miles to go. At an average rate of 16 knots, it looks like about 4 more days. However, the ship's going slower than that right now, as it's now going through 40 knot winds. Wow.

If I use Google Earth and draw a "path" line from the 2300 UTC coordinates from today to the NYC port, I get 1230 NM. I used an average speed of 15 kts which makes them 3.5 days out. The 40 knot wind shouldn't delay them too badly since it's only a slightly quartering headwind from the south... so it's blowing them more northerly than anything. Our calculations are pretty close though...

At this rate, probably 1 day early but at least definitely on time. Either way would be quite cool.

I guess that it's not going to make much difference to me if it gets in early or not. I just got my date for PCD. January 16th. I guess that's the price of taking advantage of a pretty cool program. The guys on bimmerfest have all had great reviews of it so I am going to check it out.
