I think we're looking at 1100 nautical miles (per Google earth) at 15 knots, so about 72 hours. That puts us in at the VPC shortly after midnight EST on Dec 3 (given that SailWx times are GMT).

She hasn't reported in almost 24 hours so I'm guessing they're getting close! Either that or they're at the bottom of the Atlantic

So this is encouraging... several people that were on the Liberty that got off in NYC on Monday took delivery of their cars on Friday. Five day turnaround isn't bad at all. I just hope the Charleston VPC is as fast!

Looks like quite a storm in the Atlantic now. :sad0147:

The ship is at N 40 W 65. 50 knot winds from 330. Speed of boat in the last few hours has been 7.4 knots. Wave heights look to be around 3 meters today and 4 to 6 meters tomorrow.

Did anyone ever read the entry on RoRo carriers in Wikipedia?

"The seagoing RORO car ferry, with large external doors close to the waterline and open vehicle decks with few internal bulkheads, has a reputation for being a high risk design (to the point where the acronym is sometimes derisively expanded "Roll On/Roll Over". An improperly-secured loading door can cause a ship to take on water and sink, as happened for example with the Herald of Free Enterprise in 1987. Also, water sloshing on the vehicle deck can set up a free surface effect making the ship unstable and causing it to capsize."

Not that I'm a pessimist or anything...

Check out the wave heights just off the coast of Ireland. Hope no other RoRo's are going through there.

I'm going to Charleston but I'm still glad! I'm sure this week is going to be another long one since she doesn't get down there until Saturday.

Congrats for those guys in NY!!

I've still have a bit of a wait. My car gets dropped off in SC and then trucked to FL. Hoping it will be here around the 15th!!

Question for Bostonian or bmwguy80 - Are you guys using the two week trial of that Ais software??

I'm not... if you just register for a free account you can access several of the URLs.

Go here http://aisfree.aislive.com/Influx.aspx and register for a free account. You should then able able to access this URL http://aisfree.aislive.com/Influx.as...0York%20Harbor

I better not sign up for that because I know I won't get any work done till the boat docks in SC.

Excellent!

Does anyone know if the Courage also stops by Port Newark as part of its "NY" itinerary? I was under the impression that NJ orders are filled from the NJ port, not NY.

Yeah they're actually docked in NJ but they list NY as the port. Probably because nobody wants to own up to being in NJ.

LOL.... I worked in Jersey City (Newport area) for a few years. If I was more than a block from the PATH station I felt like I was gonna get mugged. Once you start to get away from the city the state isn't half bad though.

hehe, if that floats your boat ok I'm just happy my baby is already within ~20miles of my home.

BTW, I lived in Newport for 4 years before I moved further out, the area between the mall and a few miles out east is indeed in need of demolition...

Quite familiar with the area and you're right! NJ definitely gets a bad rap from areas like that and Newark (where you're likely to get AIDS just by driving through town!)
