Maintain CD "random" setting

I searched and couldn't find this one.
When I put in a CD and select the random play function, it works great. But once I turn off the car, it loses that setting and goes to numerical order, on the last song that it had randomly selected. Once I select random for a CD, I want it to stay. Every aftermarket CD I have ever had maintained the random setting.

I've noticed that too. You just have to hit the random button again... I usually wait for a break between songs.

The random setting isn't so well worked on the radio :-/ (who made the radio by the way?)

If you select random, and then a song you don't like comes up - and you push next...it doesn't chose the next random song - it choses the next song on the cd - every other device I own would continue randomly chosing songs when I push next.

It's not a biggie to me....cause I like to chose songs - but it's a bit odd.

I've been complaining about this since day 1. It isn't just the E90 either. The X3 has the same exact problem. Infact the X3 can't even display the ID3 tags of an MP3 CD.

If you push forward or backward on my other CDs while random, it does go to the next ordered song, not the next random.
Where is BMW's "suggestion" box for radio software updates?

This does bug.

To get the next random song you hit the random button twice.

I was hoping the sw update fixed this, but no.

We should sign an online petition.

Back/Next should be previously played song / next random song.

Random should 'stick' between turning the car off/on.

Display mode (title, etc...) should stick between turning the car off/on.

What else?

They should take a course from Sony... or even Apple's iPod.

Good thing the car drives better than the stereo.

The first item should specify "When in random mode", but otherwise I agree 100%. I listen mostly to mp3 CDs, and it is highly annoying to have to put it in random and change the display every single time I restart the car.

If the next song played is truely random - how do you know when you've gotten to it? Maybe it randomly selected the next track... can you prove it didn't?

If a random tree falls in the woods....

IF it were random, then pressing the Next button wouldn't come up with the next track EVERY time.

I heard that . . .

HAHAHA, I just bought a pair of Arnettes (my first sunglasses with polarized lenses) and BOY does it drive my nuts that if I tilt my head, I suddenly can't read the display.

Duh We were talking solely about random issues at the time I posted that.

Apologies for bringing an old thread back from the dead. If I had just posted the question "Can't get MP3 to play random when pressing next" I would have had countless post of use search etc!!!!

Has anyone seen a fix for this problem or the fact that random also turns itself off everytime you turn off the car..

Nope my E46, E60 and looks likely the E90 does this with Random where it only works for that session in the car. In the wifes ST "Ford" the Random remains until you take the disc out but remains in that state engine on or off.

It's always bugged me that the BMW does this but put it down to character, it seems sloppy coding by whomever wrote the software for that element.

Random works as it should for iPod: next jumps to random, back jumps to previous song

CD/MP3 CD Random does not function at all: Next button jumps to next song in order

Nobody cares about pressing the random button every time they get in their car as much as this annoying problem.

Does anybody have a solution to this problem of the random feature not working on CD/MP3 CD.

Please save your responses regarding having to push random when you get in for another thread, as this thread is now about how we can get the random feature to properly work on CD mode.
