tuners-How long til 500whp??

Ok, ok...I realize this somewhat academic but how long til we see 500whp? I'm not interested in the 'Isn't xxx enough? Or you need to upgrade the clutch, etc. What I want to know is how long before somewhat shoots for this and makes it happen.

Shiv, Terry, AA, etc. - what is the current limitation? Is our current development limited before you all go into the internals?

There are obvious components that need to be upgraded but in my mind, the further this platform is pushed, the opportunity for BMW to continue push the envelope.

The M looks to be a great machine, but in my mind the tt platform is where BMW will close the gap on Porsche. A 500whp 335xi could make me forget (temporarily) of a 997tt. BMW missed their mark by continuing to cram more and more weight into the M. I love the 8 cylinder concept but it simply doesn't make enough torque off the line in all the initial tests - it does seem to shine in the upper range...exactly where a daily driver doesn't need it.

If protomotive where to get involved with the development of the 335i I can only imagine what would happen in the tuning wars.

I think 2008 will be the year of turbo upgrades. That will get you to 500whp and beyond.

I don't see the M3 as the daily driver, but as a track-biased road car. The V8 weighs less than the I6; the engine is a really nice bit of work.

You need to look into upgrading the fuel system before attempting anything beyond a tune with DP and other minor mods. If you go for extremes with larger turbos, new cam grinds, or flowed heads, you will be sorely limited by the stock fuel system. If you can get a more robust fuel system, I don't see a problem with this engine handling the extra stress.

Just avoid detonation, for the most part, and the engine should be able to cope with 500+ WHP.

FYI, The N54 (335i) weighs less than the s65 (m3). 445lbs vs 429 lbs

The E92 M3 V8 weighs less then the E46 M3 I6. I'm not talking about the 335i.

500 wheel would just be a head ache.
I'd stop around 410-420.

More than 560-570 crank - figure 15% drivetrain loss and you're close to 590.

This car could def hit 500 whp with new turbos, manifold, and with fuel and timing upgrades, it is only a matter of time before a kit comes out for this car creating crazy horsepower and torque............

I mean you can look at many other cars creating major horsepower and torque with kits, for one the B5 S4........

I'd guess late '08, but they'll be few and far between, one-off/custom jobs that arent meant to be daily drivers.

I know a shop working on the upgrades. They expect to be produced around spring w/ just rebuilding the current turbos. The expected pice range though is going to be $6000+, as you will need a custom piggyback offered by the same company that reworks your turbos.

The shop that I am in contact with will make the turbos capable of 500whp, but like everyone said, fuel system holds us back. They are aiming for 480whp, as they expect this to be a happy medium between performance and reliability.

Without LSD, the car can't handle the power of V2, JB2, etc. very well. 500 hp without suspension, tranny, etc. upgrades would be useful only in certain situations.

I, for one, am looking forward to the evolution of the whole package, not just HP.
