I know there's only a few members around from Durham, but I would like to know how many would be interested in 100 oct. unleaded race gas at a gas station on Hillsborough Rd?

On a similar note, you might check around (though you probably have already). I'm in North Raleigh and I'm told you can get race gas from the Honda dealership (Leith). I've never checked so I don't know for myself though.

It's next door to the BMW dealership though, so don't let them see you putting race gas in your new BMW that's still under warranty though.

I'll have to keep an eye out. I assume you got your car through Leith? I was actually just about to come here and ask people what kind of deals they've gotten through dealerships in the area since I'm very close to placing my order. How close to invoice have you guys gotten around here, and lease or buy?

I'm planning on leasing but I have never, nor have my parents ever bought a car from a dealership, or leased a car, so I am a bit new and want to make sure I go into negotiating sounding smart and make sure I get the best price. I'm actually going to make a thread over in the ordering section to see if I can get some help over there too, but maybe you guys know local dealerships.

Hi AJerman, I went through the Costco car buying program. They hook me up with a dealer in Wilmington, NC. They gave me 1500 of sticker.

I don't like the Leith BMW, they are a bunch of assholes. But this is my personal experience, maybe you will have a better experience.

Gotcha. Well I'm probably going to talk to Performance and Leith for now and see if I'm happy with what I get from them, if not I'll look towards Schaeffer.

I dealt with Shawn. They are good knowledgeable people and will take care of you. Don't even bother going to Leith.

I wish you'd given a name earlier and I would have gone directly to him to ask. I've already sent an email to the general "Quick Quote" page and talked to someone through that. If Shawn was good to deal with and gave you a good deal then I'll still try to get him and tell him you sent me.

I'm going to at least try with Leith because they are very close by, but I'm by no means locked in to them. If nothing else, competition can do nothing but help get a better deal.

I bought my car from Schaeffer as well and after some serious negotiating I got $1500 off sticker, and that was last March when no one had any coupes sitting around. Since then my salesman was fired and the sales manager has stepped down to just a salesman so I'm not sure who to tell you to go see over there.

Alright, well despite what I've heard from most people, I'm not as impressed with the person I talked to from Peformance as I was from the person I spoke to at Leith. I'll proceed (hah, i typed procede) one step at a time of course and won't get ahead of myself, that's just what I've noticed so far. I need to send Schaeffer an email, but I think I do have a name with them already unless someone else has someone very good.

I'm sure you know the typical dealer BS that you have to listen to whenever you purchase a new car, but I just listened patiently to all of his BS about how he gave me the absolute lowest price, and then I showed him a print out with their dealer invoice for a base car as well as their invoice for all of the options that I wanted. I believe that the car had almost a $3k markup between invoice and MSRP so I told them that it would be fair for them to make $1500 (I don't remember exactly what the figure was, but it was between $1200-1500, where it was roughly $1500 off sticker). He said that it would be impossible to put together that deal so I told him no problem, I'll go buy it from the dealer over in Myrtle Beach who already said they could put together that deal, but I wanted to deal with my local dealer if I could. After some more salesman BS he put the deal past the salesmanager and they agreed. You just have to stick to your guns, and show them that your not an idiot like most customers that they deal with.

Sounds good. I think I'm pretty good at negotiating, so I'm hopeful. I just hope being a first time buyer with them won't limit me too much. I've already got people from Leith, Performance, and Shaeffer working with me. I hope I can get a good result from one of them.

So, Leith's initial offer was this:

And from the sounds of it, it's a pretty good first offer. The SA I spoke to could tell I was going to drive a hard bargin and tried to pull a decent price immediately. Flow threw in the towel after 4 emails and less than 2 hours saying they wouldn't beat it. Schaeffer said they could match it, but nothing more, and Performance said they would beat a price, just tell them what it was, but when I did, he told me he'd get back to me today but never did.

So that pretty much leaves me at Leith. I know you guys have had bad experiences, but the SA I spoke to seems very helpful, nice, and has been working pretty hard to get my business. Being so close to where I live, I think I might be going with them anyway. Hopefully I won't have any issues with them.

I emailed him back after that offer (which of course he said was rock bottom and he couldn't do any better because they can already sell coupes for more than that) and told him that hitting $650 was important to me and that I wanted them to knock off $500 more, and I'd put $1000 down so we'd hit that $650 number, and also that I wanted an agreement that if the MF dropped in May or June before I got my car, that we would renegotiate with the new numbers.

If they can hit those last two requirements for me, then I think I'm ready to sign.

Oh, and I decided on Jet Black, Jade Gray, and Gray Poplar. Funny, Leith has apparently never sold a Jade. Their manager didn't even know what it looked like. They were saying how they were going pull strings (swap a P1 to P3 after production started) to get one on the lot so they could even see it.
