Wot at 110mph and BOOOOMMM

damnit guys I was doing a couple wot runs at during a turn was doing about 110mph and the engine went into limp mode hard (was just joking about the boom...didnt go boom lol). Looked up the codes and they were all misfire codes essentially in bank 1...misfire cylinder 1, 2, and 3.

Codes were p2626, p0301, p0302, p0300, p0303, p2c3d, p2aaf, p2c7b, p29cd, p29ce, p29cc, p29cf, p30ba, p2c77.

Can anyone take even a slight guess at what went wrong here? There wasnt any kind of smoke...just really rough idle and no power essentially...seemed like only 2-3 cylinders were working lol...felt like i had about 50hp.

all the help would be greatly appreciated. also i might have not put in all the info you guys need to help me diagnose this problem so just let me know if you need anything else. thanks

Some of those are secondary o2 codes which wouldn't be causing misfires or really providing much insight into the problem.

Does it misfire repeatedly? Or was it a one off? If there are no other obvious codes to help inform of the problem, it could have just been the stars aligning to F you over. The DME is very finicky and will shut down the cylinders if it senses anything it doesn't like.

plugs 15k miles, coils 85k, and injectors probably 40k. however the misfires were from all 3 cylinders in bank 1...cylinders 1,2,and 3 which leads me to believe there is something else wrong. it seems very unlikely that all 3 cylinders would misfire at the same time right...possible but would be extremely coincidental.

would a blown turbo do this? or maybe a blown o2 sensor?

it is a constant misfire i all 3 cylinders as it idles and runs so bad...i meant its not even close to running alright....really seems like it only has 50hp.

Well when the car misfires the relevant cylinders are shut down. So it feels ridiculously weak and lumpy-intentionally. So nothing out of the ordinary there.

How old are plugs and coils? If nothing obvious, always start with the ignition end of things. Easiest and cheapest to throw money at.

DME injector MOSFET took a shit. Do a search for Roy cormiers post on how to fix it yourself or go buy a new DME for $2K.

You will most likely have 1 or more injectors or coils that got fried along with it but no way to know until the DME is fixed.

thanks man...but doubt it...ive tried to solder before but for some reason i cant get the solder to melt right. they say dont put solder directly onto the iron tip but me holding the tip on the board seems to melt the board before it melts onto the wire lol.

ill have to watch some more soldering videos but damn hope i can get it.

Standard soldering iron isn't recommended for the job. A hot air solder gun is the tool of choice. I was able to do mine and actually have a few mosfets for backup sitting around. I next day ordered the soldering gun off amazon after trying with my iron for a while.

It seems to only happen on the 07 MY MSD80. Happened to me. If you aren't comfortable soldering SMD chips I wouldn't mess with it. Just start calling around to electronics repair shops and see who is comfortable replacing SMD components. I've seen a few people mention they used a TV repair shop. I posted a link to the mosfets just the other day in Roy Cormiers thread, just follow the link. May not be a bad idea to replace all 6 if you're having a professional do it...

So I saw a video on using solder paste and hot air gun and seems pretty easy...actually kind of cool.

Also my car is an 08

By the way how did any of you guys figure out which coils, plugs or injectors were bad?

yeah i thought the title might be misleading a little but yeah doesnt seem that bad. i was scared though when i was at the auto store and they couldnt pull any codes with their code reader lol.

Test the Mosfetts before you replace them. Based on what I'm seeing it is not them. Change your plugs and swap your coils bank to bank. Weak spark is the likely issue.

yeah but you think its possible for all 3 plugs or cp to go bad at the same time? just doesnt make sense why all 3 would go out like that at the same time...which is why i figured it had something to do with something that controlled bank 1 or maybe its bank 2.

i will definitely go somewhere tomorrow to find out if the mosfets are bad.

Just my two cents but I would go with the $60 fix of all new plugs and swap coils to see if it was a coil problem. You could go with the even cheaper route of pulling and reading plugs. If they are worn on the tips or electrode or insulator they need replacement. It is a lot simpler to do that then pull the ecu to test the mosfets that are more than likely working if your car runs without misfires at idle.

i dont see how you think its cheaper to replace plugs for $60 when its free to check the mosfets...plus i can pull out my ecu faster than you can pull plugs =).

ive already got the ecu out and it took me less than 3 minutes lol...ive done it a lot.

If the mosfets check out on the board, swap the coils to the other bank and see what happens. It's free
