help with FCP math
 

Does this make sense, I bought a oil filter from FCP. I used it and was going to return it for a credit for a new one.
I have to buy the new one first. Shipping is 6.99 to me then I have to pay for shipping the old one back. Assumeing shipping is 6.99 to send it back, thats $14 in shipping cost. I can go to Rockauto and get it delivered to my door for $16.
All that to save $2.00
Is there something i'm missing here?

Why would FCP pay for you to return your used oil filter? They're already not making money on this sort of thing but it incentivizes customers to use them since they'll replace everything. Obviously it doesn't make sense to do this just for an oil filter.

I think it barely makes sense to do it for my oil but my oil change kit through FCP is like $106. I pay about $18 to ship it back. I've done this about 4 times. I honestly almost feel like I'm taking advantage of them but they do advertise it and encourage people to do so. I've saved about $300 so far and will continue to save each time.

If I only returned my oil filter, obviously that would make no sense. I love RockAuto and there's certainly times where they are the better buy, you just have to think about what makes the most sense for each particular purchase.
