I doubt if the roommates did it. Only the stupidest of vandals would purposely vandalize a car parked in their stall and leave a note. It's way too easy to track down who the space belongs too.
The roommate clearly left the note. However, the vandalism on the car does not look like key marks. In fact, it doesn't look like vandalism at all... more like the OP was driving in or out of a parking lot and the parking lot toll gate dropped on the trunk... or maybe something from an automatic carwash gone awry.
