I agree with you but was wondering what the benefit is in scaling down from 3" to 2.5" instead of just running 3" the whole way.
No benefit at all in my book :-D

Technically, it would open up even further at the Y junction of 3" to effective 5" of the dual 2.5", but airflow might not like the angles or something along those lines. I'm no expert. If keep it full 3" if it were me, but definitely add a lightweight muffler or resonators galore. Hate the sound of open exhaust diesels... Reminds me of inland empire bro's in big trucks blowing black smoke.
I'd love to keep the exhaust clean and smooth but add aggressive throaty roar as well.
