Yes if you come from a 6.5 inch and want to extend the idrive menu coding is required. It also depend the NBT unit (HU_ENTRYNAV2).
Normally all car after production date (2014/04 or 2014/07) should have those unit
I have used the bimmercode mobile app for coding
1) Check for display resolution either 10.25_1280x480 or 8.8_1280x480. Mine was already set to 10.25_1280x480
HU_ENTRYNAV2 > 3000HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 10.25_1280x480
2) Change display variante to brietes_display
HU_ENTRYNAV2 > 3001EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE= brietes_display
Wait for Idrive to reboot after coding
3) In factory setup (android side), Change CAN Type to F1/F2/..... 8.8 inch
Enjoy your extended Idrive screen on the ARVIN unit.
Coming from 6.5inch to use idrive menu in full screen on the unit was life changing.
