Per the site below it says it is ok to leave it in the car which would be nice- don't have to mess with it each year before Inspection...

From a vendors website

Product Description
VRSF BMW N55 Downpipe Fix (DP FIX) VR-Speed Factory (VRSF) BMW N55 downpipe fix is now available. Downpipe fix is compatible with BMW E chassis and F Chassis. VRSF downpipe fix will hide the code generated by your BMW ECU when car is equipped with Catless or high flow catted downpipe. Unlike the N54 downpipe fix, this product can be installed on your car at all time and will not alter your AFR values. VRSF BMW N55 Downpipe Fix (DP FIX)
The fix works for its purpose. I had the A7 one directly from them and not from VRSF. After driving with it on my car for 8 months, I definitely WOULD NOT leave it on. It really did screw with my AFRs and started throwing numerous codes. It ended up being the cause of rough idle as well. Also, the hot engine ended up frying the unit.

Use it as needed and remove it once it served its purpose. My car is happier running without it. The codes haven't come back either. Below are the codes it would throw.
