since you're probably going to have to pull/lift the carpet to get it to dry properly, go ahead and do that, then dust the sheetmetal lightly with some baby powder.

now go through a car wash.

follow the water tracks back to your leak.

it is time intensive to do it that way, but you're going to end up with a bad smell in the carpet if you don't pull it up and get the padding dry quickly.
