Theoretically I think one could mount a 6hp to an N52 from a 28i car but I think that's way more trouble than it's worth, at that point just get a manual.

It would mount up in theory but it would be a programming nightmare I think. Manual swaps however, don't need to be coded and the swap is pretty easy if you're mechanically inclined. |
BMW built the early E89's with the N52,MSV80 ,ZF 6HP so they are probably software compatible. Have not really looked but it's probably a second generation 6HP so life gets really good. If you like Automatics.
There were also a number of LCI 3 series with this trans.
