The FIFO params do exist, but only in the registry:
HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\Serial
RxFIFO
TxFIFO
Both should be a DWORD, 32-bit, hexadecimal, and set to 8: 0x00000008
