Put your fingers on either side of the rubber coin tray(what I call it) and pull up. Make sure the armrest is in the completely up position first though. Once you have it pulled up you can just keep pulling along the whole way and the front part slides back. I removed the actual ashtray part to fit my concealed display in there.
