i used to have the amex platinum but couldn't justify the $450 annual fee. i now use the chase sapphire preferred and i love it. you can transfer points 1:1 to a bunch of different hotel and airline programs such as hyatt, united, marriott, etc. i also do alot of shopping through the chase ultimate rewards mall where you can get as much as 10x points from certain merchants (iv gotten 5x points from staples before).
the only thing i really miss with amex is that it is much easier to dispute and win a transaction.
