There are too many things with the i8 that make it unappealing. First the i3 and i8 aren’t even modular in the sense that CLAR is—meaning that BMW’s going to find somewhere to achieve cost savings (who would’ve ever thought that the next M3 will share the same chassis as the X5?), it's overly complex, it has controversial (some would say polarizing) styling, it has front wheel drive in electric mode, it has a 3 cylinder ICE, it has fake engine sound inside and apparently on the outside with speakers, and, let’s face it, would you honestly want to own an i8 out of warranty? Would your local body shop even be able to work on the CFRP if you were to get in an accident? For this kind of money, I’d rather own an actual exotic a few years old.
