Thanks kbsilver! As far as i know you are the first owner to verify this with a BMW service technician.

Few weeks back I had a chance to inspect another 335d and it was exactly the same. Also many other owners observe the same build up as well:

So this is obviously normal. Also I can verify that this has nothing to do with the recent recalls as my car is one of the last cars that was produced and not part of the recall.

Basically this is just a curiosity at this point nothing to worry about.
