I have mentioned before that the TC is very sensitive to tyre type and tread depth.
As my summers were wearing, the dry grip levels were if anything better (as you'd expect) but as the tread depth went down the TC intervened less and less even slightly over the limit - starting to allow small slides as if DTC mode was on.
With winters I have always noted a tendency for the TC to intervene too early. As a result I always switch DTC mode on when pressing on with winters. It's weird because with DTC mode on, or everything off, there is plenty of grip - it is not that the tyres simply lack grip, they seem to confuse the electronic brain into thinking there is less grip than there is.
I only tend to notice this on corner exits, but then I have a lot less torque at low revs than a 330d...
