Yeah, I've read some horror stories and it got me a little nervous. Read some stories where it wall worked out perfectly too, so I feel confident about it.
From what I understand, bringing it to your dealer, or a BMW dealership and having them handle it seems to be the easiest. Luckily, I bought my car from Long Beach BMW and they have been handling everything.
