Versipellis,

Thanks!

I'm not sure I know what a "bloom" effect is, so I may not be able to take much credit for it! Is that the sort of "halo" appearance of the sky around a structure or other scene in the foreground?

I'm using a Canon SX40 HS "super zoom" camera. The 24mm - 840mm (equivalent) zoom capability is really handy, and it has all the manual controls that I'd ever need. Plus, it's small enough to be fairly convenient. One of these years I'll get a proper DSLR, mostly to take advantage of the higher resolution. To date, however, I've been very pleased with the SX40 and its SX30 and SX20 predecessors.

For HDR processing, I use Photomatix Pro, which has an incredible range of control and adjustments. Both the camera and the software are reasonably priced, which is an added bonus.
