Same exact thing just happened to me. I think I put the filter on incorrectly, now that I see how the pressure flows in the relief valve. It was only my second oil change and the temp dropped outside here in Denver so I kinda rushed it. Huge mistake. Thankfully I knew to turn the car off as soon as I heard the loud pop sound.

Then I flat bedded it to a high end shop and went to the dealership to get a genuine filter housing cap. My cap looked like the same exact brand as the one in this post.

Shop properly cleaned my engine so the alternator didn’t fail.

Leaving the shop car ran like a champ. Now a few weeks later I’m throwing codes. I’ll make a new thread with all the details, since it sounds like this isn’t a very common problem.
