You got that right. I was accelerating onto a highway recently with my stereo relatively loud, more focused on safely merging rather than shifting, and the car was pulling hard then all the sudden I felt the power reduced. I looked down and realized I hit the rev limiter
7000RPMs and I didn't feel any vibration or roughness suggesting the engine was revving that high.
