My wife's car (320i N46) was leaking badly around the Vanos seals. So i replaced them, and decided to give the solenoids a clean whilst i had them out. I used a 5v psu to have them operate whilst spraying cleaner. MAF cleaner because it left no residu, like brake cleaner does.
Then, after reinstalling, INPA showed this error code everytime i started the car:
2A83 - Nockenwellensteuerung- Einlass.
Remembering the DME showed an error before, i dug up some old prints i took from INPA, and found a
2A87, so there was already something going on there. I had the solenoids out at the same time, so i probably switched them in the process of reinstalling. The inlet solenoid is the bottom one on an N46 engine, so i took that one out again, and cleaned it with brake cleaner this time which is a bit more agressive. After reinstalling the error disappeared. Hooray.
