There are some examples of N54 that had fewer issues/failures, but those are typically owned by meticulous owners who stay ahead of appropriate maintenance before issues arise.
Even then, it seems that situation is less common, and really requires all previous owners be of that responsible nature.
Even if it's been well maintained, maintenance will be higher on an N54. A less maintained example will add even more expense through repairs/issues etc.
If you prioritize speed, and are willing to sacrifice some reliability and peace of mind, go for it. Otherwise, N52 with 260-275 HP (via 3 stage intake you already seem to have) is probably a compromise that gives you the best of both worlds. Not a slow car. Just not "fast", and obv limited potential for additional power mods.
