After-market suppliers recommend that 5mm spacers are not used for the reason you have already suggested.
Additionally BMS and ECS also highlight that the spacer thickness increase should also be equivalent to the fastener length increase. Prudent Design Engineering advice.
Also no grease or anti-seize should be used on any mating face.
