On my 3/2007 build model, pin #7 is the K-line, and that is what you need to connect with to "light the circles" in INPA. So my SWAG is that your cable is NOT connecting to the BUS as YOUR vehicle OBD II Socket is wired.

I have an 06 325i and when using the BG cable I also need the switch on the right. My E85/E46 need it switched to the left in order to communicate with the car.
