My point is not that the drivers weren't careless and wreckless, as no one can deny that. The point is what right do the cops have to take ownership of the vehicles that don't belong to them.

What if the cars were rentals, and the drivers were just renting them for the day from an exotic car rental company? Could the government take ownership of them then. That wouldn't make sense, however is no different than them taking ownership of any car that they didn't pay for.
