I know this doesn't really address or help with the spacer question/issue, though from a guy who's had a lot of different spacer setup I'd say your time and money would be better put towards buying wheels with the correct offsets for your application.
By the time you start hitting a 20mm spacer ideally you'd want to start looking at adapter style like H&R DRA spacers rather than bolt-through style (in my opinion), and if you're in for two pairs of those it's starting to become a significant chunk of a set of new wheels.
If the cost of new wheels isn't viable financially then figure out what offsets you want in the long run and keep an eye on the classifieds, tons of great deals on people's used wheels.
