What year is your car?
Is there any indication that the FRM is not working otherwise?
Searching for E92s going back to 2009 on RealOEM indicates it should work.

I never used the ECS harness though. Maybe it is not wired correctly for your car. The compass should light up as soon as the mirror has power.
