I don’t know exactly how do they test the smog in the USA but it should be ok Removing dpf if you keep the rest of the exhaust stock.
If the tuner knows how to, the readiness can appear ready.
Another trick is to drill 2 inch holes into the dpf internal ceramic.

I removed the EGR and had it tuned out and I have soot in my tail pipes now. Who knows what the hell is going on.
