I personally just use a Navigon portable navigation system. I put it away into a locked glove compartment when I do not need it. I do not like iDrive (it is overpriced and not very user friendly in my opinion) and do not want to go through the hassle of installing an aftermarket navigation system. From my understanding, replacing the head unit is not a good idea because you lose a lot of features. I also like to have my navigation system on the window.
