I think the 2011 and above cars with idrive are able to connect with a regular usb cable. Mine is a 2010 and I have to use the y-cable in order for my ipod's playlist to display on idrive. If I plugged in a regular usb cable it won't recognize the device.
OP, did you previously connect your iphone to your car with just the regular usb cable? If so, then yeah it wouldn't work but you'll be good with the BMW y-cable. |
