My addition:

I did karate to brown belt (as a nipper) then kickboxing for 7 years including teaching the class the circuits side and some basic techniques to beginners as well as national competition - best place 4th in UK in my weight category (middle) but only very briefly!

In that time I knackered my knee four times, dislocated my shoulder a few times and popped my hip twice - every time was due to insufficient stretching and warming up.

Sadly when I moved down here (from Bristol) there were no decent clubs so I train at home - weights, circuits and knocking seven bells out of my 30kg kick/punchbag.

I'm a smallish bloke (5'8" and just under 12 stone) which may or may not make a difference? I was well over 12 stone when I really hit the weights but it slowed me right down so upped the cardio and lost a bit.

I'd see a good sports physio - hip injuries (still carrying a minor one which physio has helped almost sort) can be pretty nasty. And no you're not too old. I'm 34.
