But honestly, I don't think I would make that big of an effort to see it unless, as I mentioned, you want to see the other sights located nearby.

Thanks-- that gives me the ammunition to make my life easier. I've been to Hearst Castle several times and my wife's a member of a bunch of the wineries in Paso. It would have been a "fly out that morning, do the lights, spend the night, fly back the next morning" sort of thing which, while doable, would be a hassle.
