The speed-adjusting volume control has been a feature since 2004, I believe.
The baseline is the volume you set manually. When you accelerate, the system will increase the volume to compensate for engine noise. Then, when you slow down, it lowers the volume to the original setting.
There is a way to set the volume increment step, but I not sure how. I have never bothered with it.
