120k miles is nothing for a diesel if it has been regularly serviced and looked after. Don't expect more mpg with a remap, you use the extra power so do not save fuel. However it will not use much more fuel and will use the same if you drive the same as before the map. You can't rewrite the rules of physics, more power equals more air and fuel into the engine. More fuel is more gpm.

The BMW 3 ltr diesel is a solid unit, way better than the 4 pot petrol.

My 30d has a bit over 150k and the only things showing wear are...well the engine is fine. It's super reliable, so long as you keep an eye on it - don't let stuff like glow plug errors or failing thermostats linger.

Also, they like the motorway and are lovely on back roads. They are not town/city cars, of course. The dpf will want fairly regular motorway runs.
