To check whether you have Aluminum bolts, just use a magnet - if it's non magnetic, it's Al bolts, and you have to replace them.
You don't need to take the valve cover off to check the bolt or the plug, just need to take the engine cover off. For that, yes, you will have to remove the cabin filter.
