I cleared codes just this past Monday before I went in for my first oil change. No shadow codes, just a fuel pressure fault code as a result of going into limp mode when I was running at 100%. It is a kind of a PIA esp since the frick'n engine cover is attached with allen bolts, one of which is a little difficult to access. Why couldn't BMW make it as easy as the x5d?
I will tell you that the little white clip that you remove from the fuel pump connector so you can plug in the JBD is very fragile and I don't see it lasting through many disconnects and reconnects. Would like to get my hands on a few extra.
FWIW, if your car went into limp mode the code is stored, it doesn't clear itself. Hook up your BT cable and clear it before your next dealer visit.
