Like you said , I wouldn't connect unit to your loaner because it will lock your unit because of vin mismatch.

The id4 or silver top EVOs as I call them are dirt cheap. I see them listed for $150 to $200. I would keep looking for a cheap blacktop once they become cheap later this year.
My black top is out for delivery.
