Not sure if the same happened to me but after copying only about 10 songs, the message "Data Transfer Unsuccessful" appeared and fails immediately every time after that when I try.
The 10 songs it did initially transfer still do work though which makes me think the partition is possibly still OK and the maps still work.
Any ideas?
I basically followed the OP to the letter and everything (seemed to have) worked.
