Walmart sells a 1.5 amp unit that I use perfectly fine under the hood. You have to plug it in, (it is not solar powered.) My little boy did disconnect the clamps one time and I got freaked out...
I also had a BMW branded Deltran unit but it didn't work under the hood, although it says that is the recommended place for it.
