I too have this issue and did so on my 1 series also.
I am at 120k miles now on the 335d and completed Filter / Fluid change at 90k and its getting annoying at times the 2-3 shift mostly because it makes me cringe if it drops hard into third.
I think it has something to do with it often not shifting down into 1st gear at a stop and starting from 2nd like 1st and dropping from 2-3rd like a 1-2nd shift.
I shift manually into third around 1800 rpm and it seems to be the best shift point.
