If the vehicle is driven on longer trips the engine gets to normal operating temperatures, thus the oil can circulate with more ease and fill the lifters. As the N52s problem is poor oil circulation, the short trips expose the design flaw. This is why BMW’s first “fix” was the bleeding procedure.
