It's just a simple way to up your caloric intake and increase protein consumption.
I'm betting it's a little less sophisticated than whatever your diet plan currently is. Seemed most popular with people just getting started and the "I already eat so much!" crowd that constantly
overestimates how many calories they're actually consuming.
Personally I like the flexible dieting/IIFYM method the most of anything I've tried.
